Course General Description

The first film ever made was a documentary. Since then, the practice of filmmaking, and of documentary film in particular, has undergone a huge transformation. New technologies have made way for different stories and unheard voices to emerge and together they have evolved into a variety of forms, styles and genres that allow for highly individualised ways of seeing and showing reality. This forms the crux of the master’s programme in Creative Documentary Practice at Srishti. Engaging with social, political, cultural contexts allows students to navigate through research processes and find their own voice and position. Through continuous making, they will also learn how the techniques of filmmaking can be employed creatively to tell stories about real people, places and events that critically reflect the world we live in.

Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology (Srishti) is a design school established in 1996 by the Ujwal Trust in Bangalore, India. It offers design education in Digital Video Production, Film, Visual Communication, Experimental Media Arts, Design in Education, Textile Design, Animation and Visual Effects, Interaction Design, Product and Interface Design, Furniture and Spatial Design, Business Systems and Design and much more. Regular interaction with design studios, production and distribution centers, community projects, retail establishments and industry forms a vital bridge between Srishti and the world.
