Course General Description

The program will endeavour to establish the importance of the role of landscape architects as stewards of the land, that strive to achieve the highest quality in the built and natural landscapes. The programme holds strong connections to regional planning, urban design, heritage, environmental resilience and architecture, in order to produce professionals capable of responding to the challenges found at the intersection of design, culture, urbanization, and ecology. Landscape encompasses all fields directly and indirectly related to the built and natural environments, making it an absolute essential lens to view either with. Landscape architecture as a discipline is devoted to understanding and managing the human and environmental forces that change the landscape. Landscape architects plan and design places for the health, safety and welfare of citizens through systematic decision-making that integrates science, art and technology. It ultimately helps create, protect and improve landscapes thereby enhancing individual and community quality of life, ours and the ecosystems’. SSAA, a powerhouse in architectural and urban design and planning education seems wholly incomplete without the introduction of this third arm in the trinity of professions dealing with the fabric of our cities and the environment. Introduction of Landscape helps our sustained efforts towards interdisciplinary learning, ultimately readying the students to work in dynamic multidisciplinary teams, for the overarching profession dealing with the built and the natural.
