Course General Description

Industrial facilities make up a large part of the spatial environment created by man to live and to leave a legacy for the future generations (architect A. Burau). These objects with residential buildings are the most reliable representation of life in this very time and space. To understand and love the world is the kind of science we teach at the Department of Architecture of Industrial Facilities and Architectural Design, which was founded in 1977. Since the beginning of its existence, the Department has pursued two directions in educational, scientific, and practical activities: industrial architecture and architectural constructions. Today, architectural subjects that taught at the Department concern diverse industrial, multi-functional, and technologically sophisticated objects of business activity, including industrial buildings, enterprises, groups of companies, and industrial areas. The scope of activities of the Department includes lecturing, supervising course and diploma projects, as well as practical training sessions, and providing career guidance. Theoretical and practical subjects cover all the necessary issues of preparing qualified architects and civil engineers in the field of industrial architecture and architectural constructions. The main subject for the future architects is architectural design. Themes of course projects reflect the general principle of the educational process: from a small production facility with a small number of employees and simple technology to multifunctional industrial complexes and large territorial units, such as industrial zones. Along with the study of the peculiarities of industrial design of new facilities and renovation of existing ones, the training provides for deepening the knowledge of the role and place of production facilities in shaping urban environment, the theory of architectural formation, and the integrated comprehensive design of manufacturing facilities.
