Course General Description

Are you interested in a career in graphic design and already have a bachelor’s degree under your belt? This professional certificate program will prepare you for a future in this exciting field. You’ll take two years of courses and earn 60 credits, while gaining practical hands-on experience as a designer. Work closely with professors in-studio and learn different techniques in print, motion, experiential, and interactive design. You’ll start by working on projects that immerse you in the language, skills, processes, and methods that serve as a foundation for all design work. Learn to distinguish meaning from images and critically examine visual presentations. You’ll focus your practice in typography, use of color, drawing methods, and much more. Students with no prior studio art background will also take prerequisite courses, which can be completed before or during the program.

School General Description

The Lesley University College of Art + Design was founded in 1912 as the School of Practical Arts to primarily teach commercial art skills. In 1967 the school changed its name to the Art Institute of Boston (AIB) and added fine art programs to establish itself as a professional art and design school. In 1998 the school merged with Lesley University. In 2013 AIB changed its name to Lesley University College of Art and Design in anticipation of its move from Boston to Cambridge. An accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design, the college’s mission remains focused on providing artists and designers with rigorous studio education and training grounded in the liberal arts. Its goal to produce contributing and responsible citizens is supported by 100% internship placements and a 93% employment rate. Students are able to work in the art and design community with one of over 50 community partners, gaining experience teaching, organizing, and exhibiting their work.
