Course General Description

As a Painting major at MECA, you will discover and give voice to what inspires you in an environment that supports your creative process and ideas. You will master fundamentals and alternative techniques using light, space, form, and color to translate what you see and understand about your surroundings. The curriculum is designed to strengthen your ability to make, as well as to read, write, think, and speak about your work. The course's experienced Painting faculty will help you establish an aesthetic voice, approach, and perspective that is uniquely yours. They will teach you about best practices when it comes to marketing yourself as a professional artist and selling your work. When you graduate with a BFA degree from MECA, you will have all the tools you need to make painting the center of your career and your life.

School General Description

Located in the heart of the Portland Arts District, Maine College of Art offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art, a Master of Arts in Teaching, a Salt Graduate Certificate in Documentary Studies, as well as Continuing Studies for adults and youths, including a Pre-College intensive for high school students. The College has transformed a former department store into the main campus building with vibrant classrooms and studios that are open 24/7. Also located in the Porteous Building, the Institute of Contemporary Art at MECA serves a critical regional role in its commitment to presenting contemporary, provocative work by living artists from Maine and around the globe. The Joanne Waxman Library is one of the largest independent libraries in Northern New England.
