Course General Description

The ‘Design for Retail Experience’ (DRE) PG Programme offered at NID R&D Campus, Bangalore commenced in June 2007 in NID R&D Campus with 15 students in the 1st batch. This program was conceived strategically, looking at the booming Retail Industry in India over the last decade. Designing delightful, effective and friendly shopping experience becoming the market differentiator for many competing brands today, this PG program has been tailored to fit this need. The programme is designed for the candidates from various backgrounds and looks at the retail industry in a holistic manner. Stylistically since Indian retail has been inspired from west, therein lay a challenge to understand the Indian consumer psyche and behavior. The program brings in an understanding of consumer lifestyles and aspirations in order to visualize and create new concepts and design strategies in shopping experience.

The National Institute of Design (NID) is a design school in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar India. The institute functions as an autonomous body under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. NID is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under Ministry of Science and Technology, government of India, as a scientific and industrial design research organisation.
