In January 1966, Leonid Viktorovich Ershov, professor of the Moscow Mining Institute, became the acting rector . In April, the institute was allocated several apartments in one of the buildings of the 1st microdistrict for organizing administration and receiving the first teachers, and the construction of the first building (school) in the Northern Industrial Zone began. In August, the former dean of the instrument-making faculty of the Moscow State Technical University named after M.V. Bauman professor Leonid Nikolaevich Presnukhin , and one of the buildings of the builders' dormitory on Yunosti Street (now the MIET campus) was allocated for the settlement of nonresident students.
