Course General Description

This two-year MFA in Visual Arts program features intensive 10-day residencies every January and June during which you will participate in presentations, workshops, seminars and critiques with a wide range of faculty and visiting artists. You will also join our Photography and Writing students and engage in interdisciplinary work across programs. Each residency has a thematic lens intended to help students reach across disciplines. Themes, which have included Food, Migration, Borders, and Fear, are featured in a single day of events known as the Concurrent Curriculum. Between residencies, you will be assigned to a faculty advisor who will focus on your academic work and to a studio-mentor to build on the insights made during the residency.

New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA) is the oldest and largest non-profit art and design college in New Hampshire, founded in 1898 as the Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences. Today, NHIA has grown to become the third largest art and design college in all of New England. Regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on Higher Education and nationally accredited by the National Association of Schools of Arts and Design (NASAD), NHIA offers undergraduate (BFA), graduate (MFA, MAT), and community education programs serving over 2,000 students annually.
