Novgorod State University named after Yaroslav the Mudroi (abbreviated NovGU ) is a Russian higher educational institution located in Veliky Novgorod . The largest state educational institution in the Novgorod region . It was founded in 1993 by the merger of the Novgorod Polytechnic Institute (NPI) and the Novgorod State Pedagogical Institute (NGPI). In 1997, the Novgorod Agricultural Academy (NGSA) became part of NovSU. In April 2017, it became one of the regional flagship universities
