Course General Description

The MDDO is a two-year, 66-credit program with a carefully sequenced, course-based curriculum built for students who seek immersion in the critical and technical skills specific to the extended practice of object design. By providing open platforms for rigorous thinking and making, the program presents students with a creative and intellectual context in which the materiality, agency, utility and poetic potential of objects can be studied and explored. A series of core studios, supported by seminars and technical labs, conclude with the public presentation of a year-long thesis project.

School General Description

SAIC is distinct in the way that it provides graduate, post-baccalaureate, and undergraduate students an interdisciplinary curriculum and the necessary freedom to develop as artists, designers, and scholars. At the same time, strive for a level of rigor, investigation, and cultural relevance that makes SAIC truly special. Students translate the most complex ideas into tangible forms—paintings, sculptures, films, performances, books, installations, inventions, buildings, community projects, and, more often than not, a combination of the above. Few schools in the United States provide such a broad range of possibilities.
