Course General Description

The attributes of moving image are becoming difficult to define. The lines between live-action, animation and computer generated imagery are getting blurred. The course in Animation and Visual Effects encourages innovation in the field of manipulated moving image and finding one’s voice in either personal, artistic or industry environments Animation and Visual Effects specialisation at Srishti at the Masters level nurtures creativity and personal expression accompanied by skills strategic to a growing creative industry. It provides a framework for practitioners from diverse fields to enter the world of animation and visual effects and expand its boundaries through their unique perspectives and experiences. This course encourages students to explore and develop personal styles, artistic visions and voices through their filmmaking practices. It also seeks to provide a broad understanding of animation filmmaking based on independent practice, the industry and experimentation in the Indian context. Students can choose to work with diverse techniques (2D and/or 3D, traditional, experimental, stop motion etc.) to develop their abilities as storytellers, visual artists and directors. The curriculum includes fundamental inputs in animation techniques, film language, storytelling, image-making processes and skill enhancement. It also offers opportunities for experimentation, innovation and creative collaborations.

Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology (Srishti) is a design school established in 1996 by the Ujwal Trust in Bangalore, India. It offers design education in Digital Video Production, Film, Visual Communication, Experimental Media Arts, Design in Education, Textile Design, Animation and Visual Effects, Interaction Design, Product and Interface Design, Furniture and Spatial Design, Business Systems and Design and much more. Srishti has a number of centers and labs that offer practice- and research-based environments for students and faculty from a multitude of disciplines.
