Course General Description

Geographic position of Georgia, the specific character of its vernacular culture and some branches of local agriculture, especially, sheep farming which is associated with wool harvesting, contributed to the development of textile production in the country. Natural dyes traditionally applied to yarns produce a rich variety of colours. Wool is still used to manufacture mats, carpets, felt and various accessories. The tradition of textile manufacture prepared grounds for textile studies at the Academy. The Chair of Textile opened at the Faculty of Decorative and Applied Arts in 1959, which contributed to the development of contemporary Georgian textile design.

School General Description

The mission of the TSAA is to contribute to the spread of universal values and promote artistic/creative and research activities in the fields of fine arts, design, media arts, architecture, restoration/conservation and art history and theory. The TSAA is guided by values that are based on the principles of academic freedom and envisage the preservation and development of national cultural traditions with a view to promoting public welfare and finding a respectful place on the international scene. Currently, five faculties operate at the academy, those of Visual Art; Architecture; Restoration, Art History and Theory; Design; Media Art. The Academy aims to contribute to the development of students' identity and interests and support research-based practices by drawing on traditional as well as modern research.
