Course General Description

BA (Hons) Fashion Textiles, at UCA Rochester, will give you the freedom to explore printed textiles through a wide range of design-led projects – from creating a catwalk collection to fashion-led interiors and textile art. This fashion course sets itself apart from the rest by helping you become not only an excellent fashion designer but also a specialist in print design, developing an in depth understanding of hand and digital techniques. Our students are passionate about colour, texture, pattern and using the latest cutting edge techniques in their work. If you want to work in the fashion industry and learn how to pattern cut, drape on the stand, work with a variety of fabrics, and make exciting garment collections, but can’t live without colour, pattern and print, then this is the course for you. You'll have the chance to work on live industry projects with big brand names, including Alexander McQueen and Peter Pilotto, as well as exhibiting your work at shows including Graduate Fashion Week and the New Designers Exhibition.

School General Description

The origin of the University for the Creative Arts lies in the establishment of various small art schools in the English counties of Kent and Surrey in the nineteenth century. In Kent the first of these was Maidstone College of Art, founded in 1867, and in Surrey the Guildford School of Art, founded in 1856. During the second half of the twentieth century many of these small art schools merged, eventually forming Kent Institute of Art & Design in 1987, and Surrey Institute of Art & Design in 1995. These two organisations joined forces in 2005 to become the University College for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester. In May 2008 the University College for Creative Arts was granted full university status by the Privy Council, and adopted its current name, the University for the Creative Arts, officially in September 2008.
