Course General Description

Design stunning characters and immersive worlds for computer games that you and others would love to play. Learn how to turn your imagination and creativity into visually appealing interactive experiences for commercial use. With access to our purpose built labs, equipped with high-end hardware and industry software, such as 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance Tools, Adobe CC, Unity, Unreal and much more, you will be able to bring to life incredible worlds, dynamic characters and engaging game prototypes from your imagination. Get first class support from our industry experiencd lecturers who have worked on games for Sony, Adidas, Intel, Crytek, 2K Sports, Rebellion, Eutechnyx and Headstrong Games. You will be taught through hands on practical sessions, underpinned by visual design principles and traditional 2D and 3D visualisation techniques, a range of skills including: 3D modelling, animation, digital sculpting, material & texture authoring, Interface design, modular design, character art, concept art, procedural content production and observational drawing. Beyond learning the tools and techniques you will be challenged to engage with a thriving industry through live briefs, game jams, our annual games conference, end of year show and a variety of field trips to conferences in the UK and abroad. Follow in the footsteps of our students who had industry placement year at companies such as Neon Play, Sumo Digital, Team 17 and Unity Technologies to get some serious experience that will kickstart your career following graduation. For your Games Art degree you will work on your own and in teams with our games programming and design students to develop real world experience and produce an extensive portfolio of artwork, playable games and prototypes that is fit for purpose and offers you the perfect springboard into the industry.

School General Description

The University of Gloucestershire is a public university based in Gloucestershire, England. It is located over three campuses, two in Cheltenham and one in Gloucester, namely Francis Close Hall, The Park, Oxstalls and The Centre for Art and Photography being near to Francis Close Hall.
