Course General Description

The Arctic Art and Design master’s programme has been developed to respond to the changing role of the creative professional in society. The programme is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Centre of Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The content is designed to harness the potential of service design and applied visual arts in social, community or business contexts. Service design and applied visual arts are used by our students to work with clients and community groups to identify problems and create solutions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in visual arts, design, media or architecture OR
a bachelor’s or master’s degree from another field of study containing the minimum of
60 credits in visual arts, design, media or architecture

Portfolio with CV

Grants and Scholarships

All students subject to tuition fees and starting their studies in autumn 2019 will be granted a scholarship of 4 800 euros. In addition, one-fourth of the students admitted will receive a scholarship covering 100 % of the tuition, and one-fourth a scholarship covering 80 % of the tuition.

Located in the city of Rovaniemi, on the Arctic Circle, the University of Lapland is an international, multidisciplinary university whose areas of expertise include Arctic affairs and tourism research. Originally established in 1979 to provide higher education opportunities for those living in the far reaches of northern Finland, the university has now become an important educational institution for the entire country. The University of Lapland has turned out every fourth lawyer, every third university-educated expert in art and design, close to ten percent of the social scientists, and many talented educational professionals here in Finland.
